Missions Benefit Concert

Missions Benefit Concert: On Sunday, March 22 at 4:30pm, Bruce and Gail Schoonmaker will offer a free concert in our sanctuary.  The Schoonmakers are long-time members of the music faculty at Furman University and the parents of our pastor.  They will perform a variety of songs with voice and piano including sacred music and Broadway standards.  An offering will be collected to support our youth mission trip to Owsley County, Kentucky and our annual mission trip to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Bruce and Gail Schoonmaker grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, and have been involved in music and singing since they were children in church. Both graduated from Furman University with degrees in music. They married, then moved to Evanston, Illinois and studied at Northwestern University. There they sang in the famed Chicago Symphony Chorus and with opera and civic groups in the Chicago area.

Since 1977, they have served on the voice faculty of Furman University and have performed frequently throughout the Southeast. Gail has performed at the Brevard Music Center, with the Greenville Chorale and many other organizations in the area. For thirteen summers, Bruce was leading baritone with the Brevard Music Center. He has performed with the Charlotte Symphony, the Chicago Opera Theater, Oratorio Singers of Charlotte, Opera Carolina, Columbia Lyric Opera, Greenville Symphony, Greenville Chorale, and the Hendersonville Symphony, as well as recitals in Europe, Asia and Australia. The Schoonmakers enjoy sharing their music and giving concerts to raise money to help people in need or to fund missions. All donations from these performances go for these purposes.
