Rev. Heather Burke
Heather is originally from the Metro Atlanta area, where she grew up taking music lessons, playing soccer, and going to church whenever the doors were open. She went to Samford University in Birmingham, AL and received her degree in Religious Studies. After graduating, Heather moved back to Atlanta to attend McAfee School of Theology, where she received her MDiv in Christian Education. Heather has since served churches in Conway, SC and Georgetown, KY, continuing to grow her love for ministry and church life. Most recently, she has served as the Age Level Assembly Director for the national conference of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. In her spare time, Heather can be found with a cup of tea and a TV show, swapping cat photos for videos of her nephew with her life-long best friend.

Student Pastor
Missions and Facilities
Rev. David Cates
David Cates serves as Minister to Youth and College-Age and has been on staff at First Baptist Church since 2000. David studied business administration, criminal justice, aerospace, business management, computer science and agribusiness before finally coming to what had been suggested by his college pastor… ministry among young people! One thing he likes about FBC is...the affirmation and welcome all receive as image-bearers.

Senior Adult Pastor
Benevolence and Pastoral Care
Pam Pilote
Pam has been our Minister to Senior Adults and Congregational Care for over 25 years! A social worker by background and education, those skills dovetail nicely with her work at FBC. It is amazing how God uses our gifts in ways that we never expected. She tells folks (only half-jokingly) that she absolutely has the best job at FBC. She loves working with Senior Adults and doing congregational care. She counts it a privilege to walk with folks during some of the best, most exciting and fun days they have as well as some of their most challenging days.

Receptionist and Administrative Assistant
Paula Essary
Paula Essary has served as an Administrative Assistant with First Baptist since March 2020. She is originally from Iowa but moved to Murfreesboro after graduating from the University of Tennessee Knoxville with a Psychology degree in 2005. She is married to Evan and has two children, Brayden and Savannah. The things that make her happy are reading, cross stitching, baking, Disney, and serving her home congregation at First Cumberland Presbyterian.

Communications Director
Cindy Sullivan
Cindy Sullivan has served as Communications Director at First Baptist Church since March 2020. She loves Jesus, soft blankets, liquid cheese, and her husband Will. She has worn many hats in her years as a congregant and employee at FBC, and loves learning, growing, and using her talents to serve God and facilitate the work of the church in whatever ways she can.
